Transforming a pencil sketch into a sculptural piece brings me a sense of awe at what can be accomplished with some precious metal, simple tools and an experienced pair of hands.
I find my inspiration from the environment that I surround myself in. Animals bring me not only happiness but remind me of the beauty of movement. Flowers present me with elegant pure lines to draw from and the Valhalla Mountains provide a sense of never ending possibility in my life. I enjoy being able to bring these elements together to create pieces that bring joy to others.
At Valhalla Studios, near Nelson BC, Simone Schlichting captures the iconic and powerful symbol of the horse in her jewellery. Her designs, with their Art Nouveau influence, are inspired by her love of horses and passion for metal. Her jewellery is a delight for horse and art lovers alike.
Simone Schlichting grew up in the art world. Surrounded by an artistic family, she had no choice but to join in their footsteps into an endless adventure of design and creation. Simone trained under a European Goldsmith and took those skills into a 10 year career in the Museum industry designing and building custom metal mounts for artifacts on exhibit. As her metal working skills continued to develop so did her sense of awe from studying the ancient art styles and techniques of the artifacts she worked with. These continue to inspire her in the designs she creates today.
